Let's learn about Idioms..

Idioms and Figurative expressions are used often in our conversations. They are groups of two or more words which must be learnt as a whole because the meaning of the expression may be different from the meanings of its parts.

1. a bad egg - a worthless person
2. above one's head - too difficult to understand
3. a cat's paw - one used as a tool to do something dangerous
4. a cock-and-bull story - an absurd and unbelievable story
5.break the ice - be the first to begin
6. bury the hatchet - make peace
7. crocodile tears - false tears
8. cut someone dead - treat someone like a total stranger
9. down to earth - practical
10. draw the line - fix the limit
11. face the music - take punishment
12. gain ground - make progress
13. go bananas - act crazily
14. hard up - short of money
15. keep one's head - keep calm
16. like a fish out of water - in a place not suited to one
17. next of kin - the nearest of relations
18. pay through the nose - pay an unreasonable price
19. see eye to eye - agree completely
20. take French leave - absent without permission
